Painted Galvanized Steel

Hot Dip Galvanizing is a long lasting and cost effective method of protecting metals from Corrosion. Some time Paint or powder coating is being applied over galvanized steel to create a duplex system. In order to increase economic life of structure or to increase protection in very aggressive environment this duplex system is used in which colors are being added for safety. These paint coatings are applied after metals passes through galvanizing process or some time later when the galvanized coating weathered. It is also very useful for industrial galvanized steel beams.

When you remove the metal from galvanized bath, zinc quickly reacts with environment immediately and eventually forming adherent, water in-soluble layer that is known as Zinc Patina. Three stages of weathering of zinc are:

   1.       Newly Galvanized (that is up to 48 hours after galvanizing process)
   2.       Partially Weathered (between 48 hours and 2 year after galvanizing process in this form zinc patina is formed partially)
   3.       Fully weathered ( Between 8months and 2 years with completely formed zinc patina)

After viewing the above information you can easily know the importance of Painted Galvanized Steel. It is being used through out the world in order to increase the life of economic structures.
